Track Champs & Life Members Highlight Premier Speedway Dinner

OTHER NEWS

The curtain officially came down on the 2011-12 Premier Speedway Club season on Friday night when the Club conducted its annual presentation night before a packed house at the City Memorial Bowls Club in Warrnambool.

A highlight of the night was the presentation of Life Memberships to not one, not two but three Club identities in addition to the announcement of both the Wingless Sprint and Formula 500 Track Champions for season 2011-12.

Becoming the 89th, 90th and 91st Life Members respectively of the Premier Speedway Club were Pit Manager and long serving committeeman, Mr. Terry Gillin, former Street Stock racer come Clerk of the Course and Pace Truck Driver Mr. Gordon Risk as well as prominent competitor, car owner and committeeman, Mr. Trevor Anderson.

All three spoke passionately about their involvement with the Premier Speedway Club and the pride they take in the facility and Club that it is today.

The Premier Speedway Club would like to once again congratulate Terry, Gordon and Trevor on their induction as Life Members of the Premier Speedway Club.

The track championship results for both the Wingless Sprints and Formula 500’s also proved to be a popular and exciting part of the evening.

With Parr Motorsports supporting the Track Championship awards, the winners were announced with Jye Saunders claiming the top gong in the Wingless Sprints ahead of Jeffrey Judd and Stevie Trigg.

Saunders amassed 415 points, Judd 405 and Trigg 370, with points being awarded to all cars making the respective track championship A-Mains.

Chad Sullivan was successful in the Formula 500 division just keeping former Aussie Champion Liam Williams at bay while WA based driver Matt Brown was also most deserving of his third place finish.

Again the battle for top honors was very close with Sullivan collecting 450 points as opposed to Williams with 440 and Brown with 325.

The Parr Motorsports GF1 Chassis Sprintcar Track Championship results were also re-visited with Steven Lines claiming back to back crowns.

Lines who collected the magnificent GF1 Chassis at the completion of the final night of the track championship which coincided with night three of the Easter Sprintcar Trail.

He rather impressively amassed 535 points to win from local Warrnambool based driver Jamie Veal on 480 points with newly crowned World Series Sprintcars Champion James McFadden coming home third in the chase for the GF1 Chassis with 440 points.

Formula 500 racer Jessica Moulden was acknowledged for her achievement in taking out the 2012 Australian Formula 500 Championship before the appreciative audience.

MC for the evening Gavin White conducted an extended interview with Moulden as she re-capped the greatest achievement in her now highly decorated racing career.

Jessica’s title winning car and the magnificent Championship silverware took pride of place in the centre of the Carmichael Room throughout the evening, providing the perfect back drop and subsequent talking point!

Despite the enforced absence of Club President Mr. Richard Parkinson due to overseas work commitments, the prestigious President’s Award which goes hand in hand with the presentation of the Ivan Wilson Trophy was announced by Club General Manager David Mills.

For as long as anyone can remember, joint winners of the President’s Award were rewarded for their services to the Premier Speedway Club throughout the 2011-12 season.

Two very proud gentlemen in Mr. Darren Dorey and Mr. Robbie Paton both spoke passionately of their involvement of the Club and the reasons why they devote so much of their time to the cause.

It was widely accepted that these two hard working volunteers of the Club were both the most worthy of recipients of the President’s Award.

With the commentary team of Gavin White, Garry Ross and Wayne Beams joining the likes of Barry Attrill, Jimmy Lewis, Kathy O’Shannessey (wife of track curator Garry!) and Peter Harlock all receiving some rather light hearted mementoes of their season, or moments there of, a montage on the big screen of the officials at ‘work’, a scrumptious meal and just maybe the odd celebratory beverage, the night was most enjoyable for those in attendance.
Now quite simply all attention turns to 2012-13, when the Premier Speedway Club, Warrnambool will do it all again and aim to make the rapidly approaching season the best yet!

End Release.
