Sungold Stadium Set For Easter Sprintcar Trail This Sunday Night

OTHER NEWS

Only days out from Easter Sunday night’s third leg of the Easter Sprintcar Trail at Warrnambool’s famed Sungold Stadium, fans and racers are buzzing with anticipation following recent events that have left fans simply wanting more! Brilliant racing has been served up on numerous occasions this season and once again an awesome field will assemble as they compete for the $5,000 first prize while the lucrative $10,000 bonus to any driver who can sweep the weekend may also be paid out!

While there is a hot field in the Sprintcars, the popular Super Rods along with the Wingless Sprints will also produce big fields on Sunday night. A monster Fireworks display will also be a major attraction while car enthusiasts will also be drawn to the ‘car expo’ on wheels known as the Shannons Super Rig.

2011 Classic winner and defending Sprintcar track champion Steven Lines raced to the feature win late last month at the venue when he outrun popular World Series Sprintcars champ James McFadden.

Lines and longtime crew chief Craig Bennett were on the money from the outset on that occasion as Lines also propelled the Halls Haulage KPC to fast time in qualifying along with a solid heat race win. Given their first night back together was a raging success, Lines and Bennett will once again be a force to be reckoned with Sunday night as Lines also looks to seal the Parr Motorsports and GF1 Chassis Sprintcar track championship.

McFadden has enjoyed a career best season with six round wins in WSS competition more than good enough to better his opposition and win the championship. A stirring performance through Speedweek included four round wins from five including a stunning performance on New Year’s Day at Warrnambool to take the win.

Both Lines and McFadden will be back in action this Sunday night while the talented young pair will face enormous competition from US import Shane Stewart.

Stewart has been in red hot form recently and will once again relish an opportunity to get back to Warrnambool where he tasted success in the 2010 Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic. The Monte Motorsport pilot won the $20,000 to win Krikke Boys Shootout while victory in Sydney’s Darley Memorial has also been highlights of the latter half of the season.

With a record 10 Easter Sprintcar Trail round victories at Warrnambool, Max Dumesny will also be a welcome addition to the 50 strong field while son Mitchell will also mount an attack this weekend.

Six times national champion Garry Brazier enters the mix with renewed enthusiasm while defending Easter Sprintcar Trail champ Shaun Dobson has been in great form since returning to the family run #77.

Local Jamie Veal was involved in a memorable finish in last year’s Easter Sprintcar Trail round when he was beaten to the chequers by Steven Lines on the last corner in a foggy finish! Veal was victorious at the venue earlier this season and has been in career best form as he is keen to go one better than last year.

With all things being equal with car owner Mat Eastham and his pregnant partner Renae, Stephen Bell will be in the mix along with former Classic winner Trevor Green.

Eureka Sprintcar Series champ Darren Mollenoyux is also in career best form while Brett Milburn and John Vogels have all been quick this season.

Camperdown’s Jye Saunders leads the Wingless Sprint nominations following his strong run recently at Sungold Stadium while Mark Balcombe, James Gardiner, Chris Halesworth, Phil Johnson, Sean McKeever, Brad Warren and South Australian Adam Sealey are among the almost 30 car field.

Newly crowned state champion Geoff Leigh heads up the Super Rod entries while another strong list of entries is littered with seasoned veterans and fresh faces in the ever popular V8 class.

It’s a no brainer to make your way to Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium this Sunday night for the Easter Sprintcar Trail while the action will be presented by Advanced Coating Services.
