The Australia America Challenge Cup has long been associated as an integral part of the landscape that is the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic and in 2011 Oval Express Magazine has joined forces with the Premier Speedway Club to ensure it certainly remains that way.
The preliminary feature event on night one of the Classic, has seen some of the Sprintcar Racing’s biggest names stand atop the podium in its 13 year history with Brooke Tatnell leading the way with his three wins coming in 2000, 2007 and 2009.
Other Australian’s to have tasted Oval Express Magazine Australia America Challenge Cup success include Skip Jackson (1998), Kerry Madsen (2005), Ben Atkinson (2006) and Max Dumesny (2008) while the super competitive American’s have also reigned supreme with Randy Hannagan (1999), Chad Kemenah (2001), Donny Schatz (2002), Brad Furr (2003), Daryn Pittman (2004) and Shane Stewart (2010) having collected along the way.
Now with Oval Express Magazine on board the Australia America Challenge Cup will carry more prizemoney while a restructured format will also keep the points nice and tight across the board on night one of the Classic.
“To have Oval Express Magazine, Jon Evans, Phil and Michelle Jordison all on board as a supporter of the Australia America Challenge Cup is a bit of a coup for the Premier Speedway Club as we continue to build on the relationship the Club enjoys as a qualifying event for the World Challenge race which will be contested in a couple of weeks time as a part of the Knoxville Nationals”, Premier Speedway General Manager David Mills said.
“Their magazine is a first class publication and we hope that people feel the same way about the Australia-American Challenge Cup and the Classic in general, we are certainly striving to make the 2011 version the best yet”, he added.
Rather than garnish the support of Oval Express Magazine, Premier Speedway has decided to devote the additional sponsorship back to the competitors via prize money on the opening night.
“We really appreciate what these guys (the competitors) do for us on the Classic weekend, it is a grueling weekend of racing, which at the end of the day is what makes the Classic, so to add a little prize money to the opening night is our way of saying thanks ”, Mills said.
The Oval Express team were also upbeat as they officially came on board. “Given our magazine’s long standing connections with both Premier Speedway and Knoxville Raceway, it is a logical and natural extension for Oval Express to become involved in supporting the annual Australian qualifying race for the World Challenge held every August at the Knoxville Nationals. The Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic is an iconic event of which the ‘Australia/America Challenge’ has been an internationally renowned component for the past 16 years. We’re delighted to be playing our part in providing an incentive for Australians to race overseas just as it is satisfying to encourage Americans to participate at Sungold Stadium”, Editor Jon Evans said.
“January 2011 promises to be a huge month in Warrnambool with Premier Speedway hosting the Classic, Australian Sprintcar Championship and, of course, multiple rounds of the Oval Express Formula 500 Super Series on both New Year’s Day and then January 9 in conjunction with World Series Sprintcars and the National Super Sedan Series respectively”, Evans concluded.
The opening night of the 2011 Classic will see drivers contest time trials, two rounds of heats and a B Main before the Oval Express Magazine Australia America Challenge Cup is contested.
With further announcements scheduled for the near future with regards to a re-structured prize purse all race fans are encouraged to keep an eye on www.premierspeedway.com.au for more information as it comes to hand. End Release.
