He has done it again, as promised one of Australia’s most recognizable and respected Speedway personalities has proven good to his word and come forward with an additional $1000.00 incentive for drivers to strive for the elusive sub ten second range during qualifying at any Premier Speedway event during the 2010-11 season. Mr Ian Grant, or Mr Motors as he is affectionately known in conjunction with the Premier Speedway Club is offering an amazing $6000.00 cash to the first competitor who can break into the un-chartered nine second bracket at Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool, the concept will continue to officially be known as the – Mr Motors Premier Flying Lap.
To put the deal in perspective at the beginning of the 2009-10 season the one lap record as taken from the transponder timing at the venue was held by Scott Milling who recorded a pass of 10.323 after he set that time in a heat of the 2009 Easter Sprintcar Trail.
Some 12 months on and a new official one lap record holder exists with exciting Victorian Young Gun and third generation star, Nick Lacey setting a new mark of 10.212 seconds.
Can someone do it? Mr Motors continues to think so, this money has not been provided so it can simply sit there - it is there to be won!
As promised last season, in an added bonus, the $6000.00 figure will again continue to grow each season, by an amazing $1000.00 until such time as someone manages this amazing feat.
“It sure is going to be exciting, as I have said before Mr Motors was the instigator and we as a Club are excited to be able to be a part of it”, Premier Speedway General Manager David Mills said.
“We have some eligibility rules in place which are basically that the Mr Motors Premier Flying Lap is open to all Sprintcar competitors during any time trial (qualifying period) session and any car that breaks into the nine second range must be a legal car, meeting all current SCCA specifications and rules”, Mills added.
The concept is all about some hammer down action during qualifying and times recorded during heat races will not qualify for the award.
‘This is something that Mr Motors was adamant about and hey at the end of the day it is his money and our track so we better listen to what he says” Mills laughed.
