Everything is in readiness for the Easter Sprintcar Trail to conclude at Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium on Easter Sunday night with a massive 51 nominations ensuring the traditional season ending event is as popular as ever. Drivers from every state in Australia will once again converge on the southern states for the $110,000 Easter event with a star studded lineup set to appear while two young fans will also have the chance to win a brand new BMX bike courtesy of Warrnambool Toyworld.
Warrnambool’s Coates Hire were the lucky recipients of the naming rights to the Sunday night program when they won the premier club draw back in October. With the Sprintcars headlining the evening’s events the popular Super Rods will also be in support along with the Australian Wingless Sprints. A huge Fireworks display will also cap what has been another successful racing season at the famed high banks.
The third leg of the trail, Warrnambool’s Sunday night round will follow on from Friday’s Avalon Raceway trail opener while Mount Gambier will host the second round on Saturday night. Fans are encouraged to venture to Sungold Stadium early in the afternoon between 3 and 4pm when the once sacred pit area will be opened to the public. Upon paying to enter the venue for the evenings racing fans are welcome to walk through the pits to watch teams prepare for the nights racing.
“All three tracks recently met, as we do every couple of months and we all agreed that the Open Pit idea worked very well and received some positive feedback during World Series. We thought Easter and the Easter Trail was a perfect opportunity to give the race fans and especially those with young families an opportunity to come in and see the stars and their cars prior to racing kicking off,” Premier Speedway General Manager David Mills said.
Grant Anderson returns to Warrnambool following an excellent run in the recent Victorian Sprintcar title. The defending Easter Trail overall champion, Anderson qualified on the pole for the state title and despite being beaten to the finish line by Stephen Bell, ‘the gun’ was very impressive beating home the likes of Robbie Farr, Matthew Reed and Steven Lines. Back in the familiar surrounds of the family run Wagga Mobile Cranes Foster, Anderson will once again be looking for a strong performance against some of the fastest cars in the country.
Iconic former local Max Dumesny returns to Warrnambool as does the speedy Robbie Farr, David Murcott, Danny Reidy and South Australian Sprintcar champ Steven Lines. Warrnambool’s third leg will also receive an injection of talent when six times WA Sprintcar champ Ryan Farrell slots into the Victory Lane Racegear #88 while two time Parramatta City Raceway track champion Mitchell Dumesny will also make a cameo appearance.
Local John Vogels comes back to Warrnambool after he recently secured his fourth Eureka Sprintcar Series while Darren Mollenoyux also looked quick at the Victorian Title when he challenged for third before slipping to sixth at race end. Jamie Veal has shown tremendous speed this summer while he has also lacked a touch of lady luck to secure a strong result.
Tasmanian Sprintcar champion Jason Redpath who excelled at the recent Victorian State title when he qualified on the front row leads the solid interstate contingent. Redpath will be joined by fellow Taswegian Shaun Dobson who impressed at his mainland debut last Easter and will look for yet more improvement. Speedy WA pilot Carl Dowling returns to the East Coast while recent feature winner in Sydney Jeremy Cross will look to expand his experience when he ventures south from his Dubbo base. Grant Tunks will also return to the Easter Trail from his Sydney base while a wealth of South Australian talent will also make the journey across the border.
