The only place to be if you are in the Warrnambool area this Sunday afternoon is at Sungold Stadium enjoying the second Day Show of the current speedway season. A wide variety of classes will be in action and with the season quickly drawing to a close it is one of the last opportunities to catch some great racing at the famed high banks.
A total of nine classes will be competing with the family friendly ticket pricing a huge incentive for fans to be a part of the afternoon’s activities. Featuring Australian Wingless Sprints on the back of Saturday night’s state title in Hamilton, reigning state champ Jeff Judd has signalled his intentions to compete along with local and 2009 Australian title placegetter Gary Bell.
Brad Warren recently contested the Victorian Sprintcar title and returns to the class that saw him place runner up in the 2009 Australian Title. Meanwhile young guns Jack Lee, Jye Saunders and Ash Hawkins will take on seasoned racers such as Scott and Paul Drew, ex Sprintcar ace Quentin Tanner and past feature winner Tim Fisher in the hugely popular category.
A healthy mix of competitors in the Heavy Hot Rods, ASCF Sedans, Formula 500s, Vintage Sprints, Limited Sportsman and Street Stocks will also be an attraction. In particular the Street Stock field will be exciting to watch with the inclusion of current Australian champ Brad McLure.
As the car count boasts over 100 entries across the nine classes once again the Junior Sedans will be out in force. Split into A and B grade, recent winner of the Yeoman Williams Memorial event held at Sungold Stadium, Peter Doukas leads the entries. Chris Bellman and Peter Kinnear both finished on the podium and are more than ready to reverse the results from the most recent Junior Sedan event.
Jack Bell, son of Gary and nephew of Victorian Sprintcar champ Stephen, seems the likely favourite in the B grade category despite a less than successful run during the Yeoman Williams Memorial. Alex Ross, Steven Watts and the third of the Kinnear tribe, Paul is among a very talented group of future stars.
With gates opening at 11am and racing starting from midday this Sunday, the only place to be is Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium.
